Why I am not loosing weight?

September 25 2016

It is very often that I hear from people, clients of mine, or simple inquiries: “why is it that I am not loosing weight?” and then it begins, they start telling me what they had for breakfast, what they had for lunch, etc, etc. You see Ilan, I eat so well, yet, I am not loosing weight!!!

Note: I must say something, normally when I get this info, people often tell me what they wish they eat and not what they really do. we always glorify our desires 🙂 And in most cases, they will only notice it if I ask them to give me food diary of X amount of days.

To begin with, you can’t lose something that you hold on to so hard, yes, you read me well, you can’t lose something that you hold on to so hard!

What do I mean, you asked? I mean; that your weight is only the end result of your habits, and behavior, and that is what you are holding on so hard. Your habits that are very hard (or maybe not) to change, and your behavior that also might be hard (or maybe not) to change.

So, if you really want to “lose” weight, start by letting go.

I know, I know, now you are thinking, yes ilan, easier said than done! and you are right, it is easier said than done, and probably that’s why you might hear so many people telling you so much about the pound they have lost in the past one month, they talk about it so much, because talking about it, is easier than making it happen.

So where to begin, or how to begin? Well, obviously, one post cannot cover at all, however, here are some tools that you can use, to get things moving in the right direction.

  • Know where you stand at the moment, be honest with yourself, even if it is scary. know your weight, your eating habits, goods and bad, your routines, your addictions, sugars, salt, fries, pizza, what ever they are, make sure you are listing them all.
  • before making any changes, take a week to track it all. literally track everything you do in terms of wellness, activities, eating, dinning out, drinking, sleeping.
  • set your desired goal and be specific, I want to lose weight is not measurable goal, therefore not really a good one to set. I wish to lose 10 pounds in the next 10 months, is measurable and defiantly achievable, could be measured and tracked. I want to eat healthier is not measurable and not really clear, what defined healthy for one, not necessarily healthy for another. I wish to eat 5 meals a day, with the perfect balance between, carbohydrates, fat, proteins, MIGHT be a better goal, assuming you believe that is healthier. O.K. I think you got the point of setting, clear, measurable goals.
  • Now that you know where you stand, you know your goal, lets start by answering some question; what are the things that MUST be changed? make the list, don’t worry if the list is long or short, but make it. Once you have the list, choose the one/s you can commit to. start with the one/s that are doable, we want to make sure to be strong and motivated, if you fail, it’s OK, it is about the practice, make sure to free yourself of guilt, and instead of getting mad at yourself, question yourself: WHAT CAN I BE OR DO NEXT TIME TO SUCCEED? What ever changes you choose to begin with, write them down and track them for 21 days that you really practice them. For example, I must stop having pop and I will drink water instead, for example, I am drinking 8 cups of water a day, and cutting down to 1 pop instead of 3. track it on paper for 21 days, after 21 days, add another change on top. remember, this is a life style practice, you are creating the lifestyle you see yourself living.
  • Be ready for a long path, it could take month and even years to really get to your final goal. so be ready to trust your process, it will happen.
  • No shortcuts, time to say it once and for all. THERE ARE NO MAGIC PILLS, POWDERS, BOOSTERS, ETC it’s about time that you will understand and remember, it takes a lot of work, determination, sacrifice, self-discipline, planning and prepping to make it.
  • LOVE THE JOURNEY, this one could be one of the best to practice. You can learn allot about yourself while going trough this changes. Read about it, observe people’s eating habits, behaviors and even activities. follow professional trainers, athletes, normally we share a lot of tips. pick the ones that might fit to your journey and practice.

Those are few of… but probably the essential of better health.

Yours truly Ilan Halfon

No Pain No Gain

We all heard the term: “No Pain No Gain”, I use it quite often with myself, sometimes even with my trainees. However, I am not sure people actually understand the meaning of it. We tend to confuse between pain of stupidity to pain of wisdom, between the physical pain of hard work to the pain of a fracture or a nerve. The pain of a fracture might be to signal us that we are on the wrong path. A pain of a nerve could try to say that maybe we are pushing too much, a pain of stupidity could be when you think you should jump higher than you ever practice for or before, or when you just go for a marathon run when you never run for 10 km in a row. All those versions of pain could not be and should not be part of that statement. Believe me when I say, that it is more painful to push through mentally when a thing seems statics then physically when you can feel the wrong pain. It is easier to say to yourself “if I don’t feel the physical pain I probably don’t push hard enough”, then to kee...

A Path to True Wellness and Balance

In the pursuit of a healthy life, we strive for balance, aim to maintain our health, and seek happiness within ourselves and our daily lives. While achieving this may seem straightforward, many of us face regular challenges in doing so. We often hide behind our screens, offering advice and sharing personal stories in an attempt to guide others. Yet, when we delve deeper, we find that issues such as obesity, depression, lack of joy, stress, and anxiety persist. So, what’s the key? I believe that self-reflection—practiced often, even daily—can lead us toward our desired goals. The first step is to define your destination: what does wellness truly mean to you? According to the Google Dictionary: Well: in a good or satisfactory way. Ness: denoting a state or condition. However, defining wellness alone isn’t enough to help you reach your aspirations. It requires your personal experiences, objectives, and passions to truly shape it. Begin by asking yourself: What does "well" me...
