It Is Not About You The Personal Trainer!

This post is for both, personal trainers and trainees.

One thing that used to get me real frustrated when I was professionally younger was not being able to get my clients to really achieve physical results. Didn’t really get how it is possible that nothing is being transformed in their body. I was training them hard as possible, pushing them above and beyond during workouts, gave them all the right guidelines to follow, from what and when to eat and drink to in between sessions “homework” to follow, yet, nothing visible was showing. I really doubted myself as a trainer, as a coach, thinking that maybe I am not doing my job right and maybe I should do more, push more, not to mention that I was positive that my clients where frustrated with my achievements or luck of them. But honestly, I simply couldn’t think of something ells that I could do.
Except:”Trusting the process”.
When I did my men’s physic competition I hired a great nutrition coach, Steve Dupree, to help me with doing things right. After he interviewed me and just before we started working together he told me: “Ilan, just one thing I will ask you, please trust the process.”
You see, we created a plan for me, he focused on guiding me with what to eat, when and how much, I was focusing on working out and we synchronized very well. There were times that I really didn’t think anything is happening with body transformation, couldn’t see any changes not to mentioned I didn’t always felt it. But I kept my promised and trusted the process. Not to brag, I did very well on that competition and as you know took first place. Anyway, back to the post.
If you as a trainer, or as a trainee, made a plan, and you truly follow that plan, it will happen. Stick to it, it takes time, no magic pills, no quick fix; it is a compound affect that happen. The accumulation of many small actions, many workouts, many clean mills, many books that you might read, many lectures that you might listen too, many changes that might need to be done, but whatever it is, you must be patient, patient with your clients, with yourself, but above all, be patient with the process.
You as a trainer might be more self discipline then your clients, might get results faster than your clients, but IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU OR YOUR JOURNEY, it is simply about your clients.

No Pain No Gain

We all heard the term: “No Pain No Gain”, I use it quite often with myself, sometimes even with my trainees. However, I am not sure people actually understand the meaning of it. We tend to confuse between pain of stupidity to pain of wisdom, between the physical pain of hard work to the pain of a fracture or a nerve. The pain of a fracture might be to signal us that we are on the wrong path. A pain of a nerve could try to say that maybe we are pushing too much, a pain of stupidity could be when you think you should jump higher than you ever practice for or before, or when you just go for a marathon run when you never run for 10 km in a row. All those versions of pain could not be and should not be part of that statement. Believe me when I say, that it is more painful to push through mentally when a thing seems statics then physically when you can feel the wrong pain. It is easier to say to yourself “if I don’t feel the physical pain I probably don’t push hard enough”, then to kee...

A Path to True Wellness and Balance

In the pursuit of a healthy life, we strive for balance, aim to maintain our health, and seek happiness within ourselves and our daily lives. While achieving this may seem straightforward, many of us face regular challenges in doing so. We often hide behind our screens, offering advice and sharing personal stories in an attempt to guide others. Yet, when we delve deeper, we find that issues such as obesity, depression, lack of joy, stress, and anxiety persist. So, what’s the key? I believe that self-reflection—practiced often, even daily—can lead us toward our desired goals. The first step is to define your destination: what does wellness truly mean to you? According to the Google Dictionary: Well: in a good or satisfactory way. Ness: denoting a state or condition. However, defining wellness alone isn’t enough to help you reach your aspirations. It requires your personal experiences, objectives, and passions to truly shape it. Begin by asking yourself: What does "well" me...
