Before the how, please allow me to start with WHY, why you should practice observing your thoughts?
Because your thoughts are your force of moving, your thoughts are what leads you, your thoughts are what creates your moments, your thoughts PROBABLY what create your feelings (probably because I am no scientist neither a Dr. I am a humble person who shares his thoughts here) so as far as I care, dismiss what I am sharing or put it to your own test. But I can promise you one thing. If you are able to observe your thoughts, if you are able to observe the way you think to the point that you can rewind the path of thinking when you choose to, you could create for yourself the most beautiful life you can dream of.
We all have days when we feel bit down not sure why we feel like so, we go through the activities of the day, the people we encounter with, maybe the news we listen to, and cannot figure why we are down, sometimes it is as we wake up in the morning and we already feel down, trying to think what happened yesterday that could have triggered this kind of feeling.
Yet, we come up with nothing, can’t find one reason that make sense, so we just let it be.
But what if, just a possibility, that you had a very short thought about something really sad, and it was so quick that you didn’t really held onto that thought and you ignored it or covered it with another thought, but your mind already viewed it and it is triggering a whole internal motion that impacts the moment, the next moment and sometimes the whole day.
So how can you practice observing your thoughts?
Meditation / Stillness, exercise, running, training, yoga.
Most of those practices can help you learn awareness on what and how you think; sometimes changing a routine can help you observe a way of thinking. But whatever you choose, make sure to be consistent with it.

With love and gratitude Ilan Halfon
