How Self Expectations & Self Comparison Ruing Your Diet

I am not good at following maps, I am amazing at creating ones.

A lot of times if not always I find myself responding to clients and people who reach out to me via messages that it is not about the weight.

It is not about the weight and it doesn’t matter how much weight they will lose. As far as I see it, I don’t even think that losing weight is a goal, but that will be for another post.

So if it is not about the weight, then what is it about?

We all struggle with what or where we should be in relation to where we believe we are. That gap, between our expectations to our observation is the key. If I expect myself to be 20 pounds less and my scale does not show me that, there is a frustration that could push one way (gym, eat less, etc) or another (chocolate cake, luck of activity etc) either way it will be a game between the two of those, since this gap, this frustration will send me either to take action or to give up and none of those choices will get me 20 pounds less, at list not immediately, and that is an unfulfilled desire. And unfulfilled desire is one big challenge to face every day.

We must break this mental pattern if we really wish to change our body.

So how can one minimize the gap, there are many ways to one place but only if we look at a map we can see all the options that are there and based on that could make the best choice for ourselves.

Most people love following maps, sometimes, not even questioning if those maps matching their abilities or even their destination, so let’s put on hold the “following a map” and start creating one.

Ask yourself the questions that can help you understand where is it that you wish to take yourself and your body to. For example: within 12 months how can I fit into my black pants that I bought 3 years ago?  or In 12 months how can I be able to run 10 km? or in 12 months how can I master sun-salutation (yoga flow)?

Once you cover those questions, ask yourself questions that can help you understand where you stand in relation to those goals. For example: what size are the pants I bought 3 years ago and what size am I know, how many sizes can I change in 12 months, what kind of exercises I can practice to trim my body? what kind of food should I eat to help me feel and look lighter? what are the things I might need to give up so I can have the time to practice this?

How many km am I able to run at the moment, how long it takes to run 10 km? what are the things I might need to give up so I can have the time to practice this?

How many poses are in sun-salutation, how well do I know those poses, how often should I practice, how much time my schedule allowing me, what are the things I might need to give up so I can have the time to practice this?

Once you covered those questions, the only thing left is creating a road map. Which again, asking the right questions or reaching out to the right professional to help you create that plan. But this plan will be created based on your specifications.

So, let’s say, the pants you have are size 8, and you are currently size 10, all we need is to trim down 2 sizes to fit in. how can one trim down inches of his/her body, adding some activities, maybe lifting weights, maybe creating a strengthening routine that you can religiously follow, maybe change some of the eating habits etc.

Let’s take the running example, and we say that at the moment we are not able to run at all without feeling out of oxygen. So you can start small and short, example for the next 30 days for 10 minutes every day you will do 20 seconds jog followed by 40 seconds run. After 30 days you can add minutes or increase the jogging/running time and minimizing the walking time etc.

Now, before you go and start you journey, please remember this: whatever it is that you choose to take upon you, it is going to be between hard, very hard to so fucking hard. It is not going to be easy until you master it to the point that it is a second nature to you. Second, whatever it is you will choose to follow or practice, please, I am kindly asking you, trust the process and trust yourself, stop looking at cover magazines, stop chasing and searching for the next magic out there, stop anything that does not synchronized with your plan. Trust yourself and trust the process. And if you need some help or guidance, reach out to me and I will do my best to respond.

Yours truly ilan.

No Pain No Gain

We all heard the term: “No Pain No Gain”, I use it quite often with myself, sometimes even with my trainees. However, I am not sure people actually understand the meaning of it. We tend to confuse between pain of stupidity to pain of wisdom, between the physical pain of hard work to the pain of a fracture or a nerve. The pain of a fracture might be to signal us that we are on the wrong path. A pain of a nerve could try to say that maybe we are pushing too much, a pain of stupidity could be when you think you should jump higher than you ever practice for or before, or when you just go for a marathon run when you never run for 10 km in a row. All those versions of pain could not be and should not be part of that statement. Believe me when I say, that it is more painful to push through mentally when a thing seems statics then physically when you can feel the wrong pain. It is easier to say to yourself “if I don’t feel the physical pain I probably don’t push hard enough”, then to kee...

A Path to True Wellness and Balance

In the pursuit of a healthy life, we strive for balance, aim to maintain our health, and seek happiness within ourselves and our daily lives. While achieving this may seem straightforward, many of us face regular challenges in doing so. We often hide behind our screens, offering advice and sharing personal stories in an attempt to guide others. Yet, when we delve deeper, we find that issues such as obesity, depression, lack of joy, stress, and anxiety persist. So, what’s the key? I believe that self-reflection—practiced often, even daily—can lead us toward our desired goals. The first step is to define your destination: what does wellness truly mean to you? According to the Google Dictionary: Well: in a good or satisfactory way. Ness: denoting a state or condition. However, defining wellness alone isn’t enough to help you reach your aspirations. It requires your personal experiences, objectives, and passions to truly shape it. Begin by asking yourself: What does "well" me...
